Pakistan Military Abandons US Trips After Being ‘Mistaken For Terrorists’ — The Telegraph

A delegation of Pakistani military officers has abandoned a trip to the US after being mistaken for terrorists and ordered off an airliner.

The eight officers, led by a two-star Navy rear admiral, were on their way to a meeting at US Central Command.

They had boarded a United Airlines Flight from Washington to Tampa on Monday but were taken off the aircraft because of comments made by one of the men, according to an airline spokesman.

Islamist Rebels Launch Deadly Attack On Chechen President’s Village

At least 19 people including five civilians die as insurgents strike against pro-Moscow leader Ramzan Kadyrov

At least 19 people were killed today after Islamist rebels launched an audacious attack on the heavily defended residence of Chechnya’s pro-Kremlin president, Ramzan Kadyrov.

Chechen officials said that 12 insurgents and two guards were killed after the rebels slipped into Tsentoroi, Kadyrov’s home village, also known as Khosi-Yurt, in the early hours of this morning . Russian TV reported that five civilians had also been killed in fierce fighting.

Somalia Fears Key Ramadan Dates Will Bring More Islamist Attacks — The Guardian

Mogadishu civilians move out as al-Shabaab militia threatens ‘massive, final’ war on government.

Mogadishu’s battered civilian population is bracing itself for further fierce fighting, with Islamist rebels expected to step up attacks on government-allied forces and African Union peacekeepers towards the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

More than 70 people have died in the Somali capital since the start of the week, when the al-Shabaab militia declared a new “massive, final” war on the government. Among the victims were 33 people, including six MPs, who were killed in a massacre by Shabaab militants at a hotel on Tuesday.
