BAGHDAD — Iraq’s electoral commission is expected to announce partial results of parliamentary elections by Thursday, a United Nations official said, offering an incomplete picture of the vote that will nevertheless provide the broad outlines of the country’s political landscape.
The results were initially expected Wednesday evening, but Ad Melkert, the United Nations special representative in Iraq, said he hoped the results would be released by Thursday.

Jakarta, Indonesia (CNN) — A police raid on the outskirts of Jakarta Tuesday may have killed one of Indonesia’s most-wanted terrorists, though officials said they would await tests to verify the man’s identity.
Local media cited counterterrorism squad members saying that a shootout in Pamulang, Banten province, killed Dulmatin, a senior member of the al Qaeda-linked terror network Jemaah Islamiyah.
