Iraq Postpones Initial Election Results Until Thursday — News Updates March 10, 2010
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s electoral commission is expected to announce partial results of parliamentary elections by Thursday, a United Nations official said, offering an incomplete picture of the vote that will nevertheless provide the broad outlines of the country’s political landscape.
The results were initially expected Wednesday evening, but Ad Melkert, the United Nations special representative in Iraq, said he hoped the results would be released by Thursday.
More Taliban Commanders Killed In Pakistan
Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) — More than two dozen militants were killed Friday in a Pakistani military airstrike that targeted high-value Taliban leaders, a Pakistani military official told CNN on Saturday.
The strike on militant hideouts in the country’s tribal region killed Taliban leader Fateh Mohammad, Interior Minister Rehman Malik told Pakistani station Express TV.
Taliban commanders Mullah Faqir Mohammad and Qari Ziaur Rehman were also targets, but Malik could not confirm whether they were killed in the assault.

An al-Qaida group has declared an election “curfew” in Iraq, warning Sunni Muslims they will face violence if they head to the polls on Sunday.
The Islamic State of Iraq posted a message on the Internet Friday, telling Sunnis that participation in the country’s parliamentary election will only empower majority Shi’ite Muslims.
