One of the original members of the ‘Filthy Thirteen’, a crack US Army unit that inspired the Hollywood film The Dirty Dozen has died at the age of 88.
Jack Agnew belonged to the unofficial unit which operated behind enemy lines and was known for the less than respectful behaviour of its members.
Its soldiers refused to salute officers, or mop barracks, and were famed for brawling, drinking and spending time in the stockade.

BRITAIN’S special forces have suffered the worst blow to their fighting strength since the second world war, with 80 members killed or crippled in Afghanistan.
Serious injuries have left more than 70 unable to fight, while 12 have been killed.

BRITISH SAS heroes have killed up to 50 Taliban commanders in daring raids behind enemy lines.
The joint attacks with US special forces over the past two weeks have helped prepare the ground for the biggest battle in Afghanistan yet – when 4,000 British troops will go into action.
Special forces dealt the deadly blow to the Taliban by taking out scores of their top field commanders in the build-up to the massive offensive.

My Comment: These were the same tactics that General McChrystal used in Iraq when he was commanding there.
